History
The Group was founded in 1969 by Barry Watkin, an artist renowned for his works in pastels and other media, and with a reputation sustained throught the UK and abroad by his instructional books, DVDs and lectures. He is still President of the Group but, following his move to the West Country, the Group was led by Doug Baldwin, a distinguished artist with a wide and loyal following. He is still Vice Chairman, but more recently, day-to-day leadership of the Group in developing its varied talents has been taken up by Tony Lawman as Chairman.
Exhibitions
Each year, in May and November, the Group holds three-day exhibitions to exhibit 300+ original paintings in oils, pastels, watercolour and other media. These very successful exhibitions start with an evening show where the public can enjoy a glass of wine and canapes, and mingle with the artists.
Demonstration Evenings open to non-MembersMembers of the Group meet every Thursday evening at St. John's Hall in Tadworth, to practise their painting skills and exchange ideas. On half-a-dozen such evenings in the year, well-known professional artists are invited to demonstrate their techniques, and these are open to non-members at an entry price of £4.00.
